Appointments

GP Appointments:

  • For all appointments and enquiries phone 028703 42650. For non-urgent GP appointments phone from 8.30am, Monday - Friday.
  • Online booking of appointments is currently available.
  • Face to face appointments with a GP are booked after telephone triage only.

When you phone, the receptionist will ask you for some brief details about your condition or query*. The receptionist may then initially offer several different options to help deal with your problem which might include:

  • Asking a GP for a prescription
  • Asking advice from our practice pharmacist or suggesting you seek advice from your community pharmacist
  • Booking a telephone appointment with one of our specialist physiotherapists
  • Referring you to our in-house social work team
  • Booking a treatment room appointment or arranging for the district nurse to call.
  • A routine call back from another member of our team e.g. diabetic or respiratory nurse or health visitor
  • Offering to pass a message to or get advice from a GP on your behalf

*Please note: Our receptionists will treat any personal information with complete confidentiality, in the same way as a GP.

If none of these options are suitable, and if there are available appointments, you will be offered a same day telephone triage appointment with a GP. Telephone triage appointments with a GP are limited and are released on a daily basis. If you think you need to speak to or see a GP you should phone to request a telephone appointment before 9.30am. (As due to high demand, non-urgent appointments are unlikely to be available after this time).

If your problem is urgent and cannot wait until further appointments are released the following day, the receptionist will ask for the key details of the problem and will then discuss your case with our Duty Doctor. The Duty Doctor will decide if your problem is clinically urgent and can arrange same day telephone assessment by a GP.

When you receive a GP telephone triage appointment, you should ensure that you remain available to take a call that day (This can be at any point during the day, however, if you need to specify a time, please let the receptionist know). The GP will attempt to deal with your problem if possible, over the phone and may suggest other ways to complete an assessment such as using video calling or asking you to email photos if appropriate. If your problem requires a face-to-face assessment, the GP will arrange this for the same day or another day if appropriate.

Multidisciplinary Teams

We are pleased to announce the roll out of Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) in Mountsandel Medical Centre. For more details click here to watch a video or ask a GP or receptionist for more details. Leaflets are also available in the practice.

Aghadowey Branch Surgery

Our Aghadowey branch surgery has reopened.  A GP will be in attendance and it is strictly by appointment only after a GP telephone triage call through Mountsandel Medical Centre.

A nurse will carry out a once weekly morning clinic which will also be pre booked appointments, these should be booked through Mountsandel Medical Centre appointment line.

We hope you understand given the situation, that we cannot accept walk in appointments and honour our request that it is pre-booked appointments only and know that a wider service is offered in the main surgery.

Not Registered for Online Services?

GP Training

We are an approved postgraduate training practice, which means we may have a GP registrar in the practice for a year. The registrar is a fully qualified doctor who already has a wide range of hospital experience, but who must spend a year with an approved practice before being eligible to work as a principal in general practice.

We are also an approved practice for the training of medical students who must gain experience in general practice. If the doctor has a student with them, the receptionist and doctor will inform you. You are under no obligation to see a medical student. If you would prefer to see the doctor alone please say so.
